Eau Flirt Is a Fragrance Like a Moth To A Flame

Eau Flirt, the newest scent from Harvey Prince (creator of Ageless Anti-Age Perfume which we blogged about back in February 2009) and also the world’s first perfume the company says is "clinically proven to make men flirt with women."

The fragrance was inspired by a study done by Drs, Alan Hirsch and Jason Gruss of the Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation. It's the proprietary blend of lavender, pumpkin and other secret scents that apparently, attract men to women like moths to a flame, just by smelling them.

While all of this may seem a bit far-fetched, Attraction really is more than just in your eyes-- it is in your nose, too. When I wrote The Everything Dating Book 2nd Edition (Adams Media) I was asked to include information about smells and attraction. The truth is, chemistry is at least in part, based on things you cannot even see. Living things, including human beings, do respond to something so invisible that you can’t even categorize it - pheromones. I won't go into the technicalities, but pheromones are chemicals that bypass conscious systems to trigger specific, often sexual, responses. Each of us has our own, unique pheromone molecule that carries a one of a kind, chemical signature. Although you might not be aware of it, your personal pheromone messenger molecules are continuously whirling off your body and into the air around you. They rise up from the recesses of your sweat glands, and they linger in strands of your hair.
Most scientists agree that humans process this as a strong, sexual stimulant.

Further research shows that men (in particular) are stimulated by other scents, such as vanilla and pumpkin. That's why you'll often find those scents in fragranced body products. Eau Flirt’s proprietary blend includes top notes black currant, plum, raspberry, apple, and black licorice and lavender, middle notes of jasmine, ylang, nutmeg and cinnamon (the classic aromas of pumpkin pie), and a drydown of musk and rare and precious woods Perhaps the melange of scents in Eau Flirt trigger the desired response.

Both I and a young friend dabbed on Eau Flirt. We didn't get any additional attention, but that didn't really bother us, because we felt fabulous and confident wearing the fragrance. Whether or not it draws men to you and makes them fall at your feet, we really liked Eau Flirt. It's a really a very pleasing scent.

The outer, glossy, white carton feature girly graphics of a curvy girl who is obviously hoping to meet one of the "stud-muffin" guys leaning against a car. At the top, they've hooked up (of course)! The "cute theme" continues inside. I like the clean, lean, angular column of green glass with it's screened,. black, cute, "girly" graphic of the girl coyly holding her cast-off stiletto on a backdrop of cheerful, lime-green juice. Other benefits to Eau Flirt is that the ingredients are are all natural flower and plant essences sourced from France, Italy and the U.S. They don't test on animals, and the product is allergy tested with no artificial colorings.

And the scent? It isn't quite a fruity floral, nor a floriental, but a combo of these characteristics. The scent is at first, a lively burst of citrus with spice, and then as it dries down, you can smell the calming and lovely scent of lavender behind it, leaving your skin spicy and fruity and floral, all at once. I definitely think men would be attracted to it..and even better, it lasts on your skin. But I like the fact that it doesn't announce itself. It isn't a weak or wimpy scent, but it does get more interesting as the object of your affection, gets closer. And, you may find people asking you "what is that intriguing scent you're wearing?" A great conversation starter!

Physical attraction, or lust, is a nearly instantaneous reaction and an involuntary, initial response to another person. This is what most people recognize as love at first sight. It isn’t real love, of course. You can’t love someone you know nothing about. But it is a powerful attraction, lust or longing for a “type.” Ditto using scent to attract a man. But what the heck...it's fun!

The scent launched in July. Visit the Harvey Prince Web Site to find a retailer. Eau Flirt has a suggested retail price of $98.00 for 3.4 oz. eau de toilette spray, 1.7 oz $66.00, and 1 oz. purse size $36. Mini roll-ons (my favorite way to carry scent anywhere) are $19.00

Scope Outlast- Little Things Make A Big Impression

Sometimes it is really the little things that make you feel good, even if you're if you're just wearing jeans and a sweatshirt. The most important "little thing" (actually, it's not at all little) is good personal hygiene. You can be wearing the most gorgeous designer gown in the world, with glamorous jewels, but if your body or your breath smell, you will not make a good impression.

Recently I received a sample of new Scope Outlast, Crest Plus Scope Outlast, and Oral-B Advantage Floss Picks Outlast Flavor. All contain "Outlast" technology, that gives your breath a cool tingle and makes your breath feel fresher, longer (up to 5x Longer vs. Brushing Alone).
The Scope Outlast Mouth Wash $4.99 25.4 fl. oz comes in an elegant "genie" style bottle, with a fluted, plastic, twist off cap that you can use to measure out the product. I tried both the Peppermint (blue) and Mint (green). The blue mouthwash tastes exactly like the one my dentist uses. I don't love the taste, but it's easy to keep in your mouth for the required 30 seconds, and my mouth really did feel refreshed. The green mint is a blended mint, and bit more spearminty. The taste reminds me of upscale mints like Altoids. Neither one is too harsh --this little, 30-second step can go a really long way towards making you feel confident enough to get close to someone without bowling them over!

To keep the feeling going, longer, there's Outlast On-The-Go. These are Oral B Advantage Floss Picks $3.49 for 75 in a re-sealable zip lock-type bag)that have the Scope Outlast Flavor. Unlike traditional mouth picks, this one has a "TextureSlide" floss with a soft, bristle-like texture instead of the usual, hard, waxy one. It helps remove plaque and food particles as well as freshening your breath. I particularly thing they're great if you are a mouth breather, have a cold, are stuck on a plane, or just need a little lift. These easy to tote, one-time-use picks come in "Mint" and are a real plus.

I have reviewed a number of toothpastes by Crest. They're all good, but the new, Crest Extra White Plus Scope Outlast Toothpaste (in Mint flavor) does a lot, for a small SRP. of $3/25 for 5.8 oz. It has whiteners to help loosen stains and also gentle silica to help polish away surface stains, so your teeth look whiter. It also has all the fluoride cavity protection and tarter protection that you have come to expect from Crest. Even the kids will like the way their mouth feels cool and fresh and tingly.

All of these products are launching in mass market retailers and drug stores this month. You can also visit the Outlast web site. They do so much, for so very little money and effort. All three are a must-have

Solerra Instant Bronze Sunless Tanning Mitt Self Tanner Shows Your Sunnier Side

The Summer may be fading, but for many people, a "faux" tan is the most important beauty product they'll use all year. If you are a devotee, a unique product you might want to try is the Solerra Instant Bronze Sunless Tanning Mitt Self Tanner $24.95 4 mitts= one month supply.

This product isn't a gel, or a cream, a spray or a lotion, the product is infused into a soft, bronzing mitt that you simply wipe all over your body where you want to be "tan." The patented, "Invisicare" technology delivers some instant color, with your full tan developing over 4-6 hours, and lasting 7-10 days. The color is resistant to being washed off, and doesn't wipe off on your clothes (as long as you give it a few minutes to thoroughly dry, first). There isn't an actual color choice. You simply open the foil-wrapped package, put your hand in the mitt, pull it out of the foil package, and wipe your body with the mitt. The product gives you a deep, rich tan that suits your normal complexion.

The company says that while some tanning solutions can dry your skin, this one delivers targeted levels of the proprietary sunless tanner directly to skin, without any silicone, alcohol, gels, waxes or other potentially skin-damaging delivery systems. Partial Ingredients include: water, DHA, Invisicare™, black walnut extract, and caramel color. The product didn't feel sticky or drying, and it had a light scent that wasn't at all a problem. The Solerra Instant Bronzing Mitt is a single-use, four-layer, soft fabric mitt with a plastic liner on the inside that keeps the product on your body and off of your hands. I found it easy to use, and pleasant, too.

However, in all fairness, I don't use a lot of these products because I personally have had some unexpected surprises with them. I did agree to try this one, and I found it super easy to use. I liked the way my arms looked, and my face was deeper than I would have liked (my husband asked what happened to me) but friends thought I'd (finally) gotten a real tan, and comlimented it. I really got to liking the look--there is no way with pale, freckled skin I would ever get a tan like this from the sun! The only downside (for me) was as I smoothed the mitt on my legs, I must have twisted it, and the result was that I missed a few spots. I didn't notice at first, but within a few hours (when it was too late to do anything about it), the front half of my legs were striped and I felt a bit like a zebra! This is due to my lack of skill, but still, I am forced to wear pants until the "tan" finally decides to wear off. I have tried exfoliating it off, and as promised, the color isn't budging! It has been close to a week, and still the color is not fading. This would probably be a good thing if I had gotten the smooth, even, tan I wanted.

Still, despite my personal experience, I think this product will please tan-aholics. you can get it at http://www.solerra.com/

Minoru 3D Webcam Adds Fun to Your Instant Messaging and Videos

3D has really made a comeback recently, especially in movie theatres (who could resist the 3D images in 'UP!" for example?). Done correctly, 3D images appear to be, literally, bursting out of the frame or screen, directly at you. While this technique works very well for the big screen, can you have the same effect on your computer screen?

Yes! There is a 3D Web Camera called the Minoru Web Cam ("minoru" means "reality" in Japanese) by Novo. This web camera records three-dimensional videos. Using the same technique as in 3D movies, its two cameras record slightly differing images, which are combined to create an anaglyph--a stereoscopic image. All you need to see in 3D in any messaging program like Skype, Windows Live Messenger, AOL Instant Messenger, OOVoo or many others, is a set of cyan/red glasses (five pairs included -- another set of 5 is $9.99).

The first thing you'll notice about this Minoru web cam is that it looks different. It's not the same-old, R2D2, round "eye"that stares from atop your monitor. This one is red and it's a really cute "ET" type robot that looks like a friendly alien. The little "man" has a long, silver neck and a large, elongated, oval "head." The two"eyes"are the cameras. It's "hands" "hang" from the top of your monitor to hold it in place, or sits flat of your desk on it's own, two "legs." You (or the kids) may have the urge to play with it, but the Minoru isn't a toy. It gives a fun vibe to a more serious purpose: sending 3D or 2D video.

The unit's built-in USB cable plugs into your PC from the back of the Minoru's "head" and it will function if your computer is current enough to run Windows XP or Vista. Its two cameras can capture video at 800 x 600 resolution at 15 frames per second, and it can focus in up to 12" away for dramatic 3D images. The camera can also provide picture-in-picture videos (both images are two-dimensional) as well as side-by-side videos and individual snapshots. It can also be used as a normal (2D)web camera if your friends don't have the 3D glasses.

video

*this is my first, if somewhat awkward, attempt at using the Minoru 3D webcam.

Although I've been online more than 1 1/2 decades, I have never owned or used a web cam. I thought it would be a bit of a challenge. I needn't have worried as the unit is fairly "plug and play." For anyone who has used a web cam before, it's a no brainer. It took me about 30 minutes to figure out how to set everything, up, adjust the cameras, and shoot and save a video in both 3D and 2D. I still don't have the picture adjusted completely (as I move my hand towards the camera "eyes" my view is blocked out, so I couldn't quite tell if the image was sharp or not), and I haven't figured out how to compress video (although that's not a function of the Minoru web camera program), but the results are getting better as I practice.

The control panel of the Minoru is rudimentary. That makes it super-easy to use, but doesn't allow for a lot of additional options. You have to go to another place to change some of the options such as moving from 3D to 2D. You get a PDF instruction manual, but I would have wishes for a bit more information to answer all of my "newbie" questions. There is a Minoru Web Site that has some information, downloads, and a few demo videos to get you started. You also get software and a quick set-up guide.

The cost of an average web cam ranges from about $30 to $100. The Minoru 3D web cam is on $99.95, but it does a lot for your money and it is tons of fun! Check it out online at Hammacher Schlemmer.

Orly Once Upon A Time Collection-Nail Dreams, Realized

If there's anything I like more than a great, new, nail polish in a trendy shade, it's one with a girly bonus. For Fall, Orly introduces a new collection called , Once Upon a Time with a theme based around fairly tales, wishes, and making dreams come true. And with each bottle comes a little, matching, jeweled charm dangling from a lobster-claw clasp. Attach it to your cell phone, or add to a charm bracelet or necklace, or whatever use you dream up.

But the big star is the nail polish -- six new shades that are rich, creamy, opaque and full of shine (with one exception, Pixie Dust is semi-sheer). The colors are the ones seen on the runways for Fall during Fashion Week: dark forest green, rusted rose, rich berry, deep taupe, meidum grey, and greyed light blue).

My favorite is "Poison Apple," a rich, rusted red that looks rich and elegant, and gives a new take on red. It's one of those colors anyone can wear, because it's a neutral tone and it's not really red or rose, or brown, but a mixture of all three. It's softer than a bold red and more wearable. The polish comes with an enameled apple charm.

Another very trendy color is "Prince Charming," a deep taupe creme that isn't at all light or dull, or naked. The color is also a mixture of grey, brown, and taupe, so it goes with virtually everyone's skin tone. *Of course, this one has a crown charm - see the photo above.

"Enchanted Forest" is a deep forest green creme but while it's deep, it's not "blackened." Although blues and greens may feel "unprofessional" for conservative offices, it's a fun change on fingers for weekends, and lovely on toes. A jeweled butterfly charm comes with this one.

"Mirror Mirror " is a dove gray creme that is light, but not summery. It comes with a little, silvery mirror charm (how cute!).

"Pixie Dust" arrives with a jeweled fairy charm and a load of silver sparkle in the sheer, greyed-blue polish. It's a pretty party look and quite ladylike.

One of the most gorgeous berry polishes I've ever seen is "Happily Ever After," with a cute "ruby" slipper charm. It's a true berry, creamy except for some subtle, hot pink shimmer.

The Orly Once Upon a Time Collection has made my nail polish dreams, truly come true! Dazzling colors with dazzling charms...who could ask for more? And All Orly Nail Lacquers are free of DBP and all traces of Toluene and Formaldehyde.

The Once Upon A Time Collection Nail Polishes are $7.50 each. Visit http://www.orlybeauty.com/ for more information.

Creative Nail Design EFFECTS Lets You Be Your Own Designer

Fashion Week is coming in just a few Weeks (September 10-17). For the past few years, particularly, Creative Nail Design has been the Nail company of the runways. Their high-quality products perform so well, even the models are happy to have their nails done (over and over and over and over again!). CND also has also made "nail makeup" even more exciting, but creating special colors just for certain designers runways *but you can copy them by using a couple of existing CND colors.

But now Creative Nail Design (that's CND creator Jan Arnold, in the photo) is just about to launch (in late Fall) a concept that will allow you to be your own trend-setter and eliminate "cookie cutter" nails, forever. Their new line, called "CND Effects" will give designer nails, a new boost. Even the bottle is new, with an ergonomic shape and rubberized cap that make it easy to grip, and a triangular-shaped brush for more flawless application and a (a real bonus for manicurists as well as DIY fans).

The new collection features 50 fashion-forward, creme colors, from nearly sheer and light, to opaque, black and midnight navy When you see them all together, it looks like a huge box of crayons--what fun! But what makes these colors even more unique is what you can do with them -- with 15 special "Effects." Apply one of the base colors, and watch the Effects coat do magic, changing the formula to a shine, shimmer, glitter, iridescent, perl, a mattifier, and more. The Effects are chameleons, that change the way the base creme color looks. For example, I sampled "Inkwell," a nearly black, navy. But when the "Sapphire Sparkle" Effects top coat was applied, the color changed from creme navy, to a slightly softer, mesmerizing, metallic that actually looked purple under different lights, depending upon how I moved my hands around. The editor next to me used the Crimson Sparkle Effect on her black nail polish, and it become a glowing ruby. The pearl and shimmer selections can make the polish completely different both lighter and darker. Your nail will look like no one else's, and you will love the way the Effects work. It's like wearing a color-changing jewel (like an alexandrite) on your fingernails!
This is such an easy way to make a polish, your own, and to have fun playing with color and formulas. Be your own "designer" and chance your nails, anytime you wish, any way you want. According to Jan Arnold, if you used the polishes and Effects in various ways (alone, over, under or mixed) you could have up to 5,000 different color options!
Each of the Colour creme Enamels is going to be $9.00, and $11.00 a bottle for the Effects. By the way, Creative Nail Design Nail polish cares for your nails, with long lasting, fast drying colors, and they're 3-free (no DBP, formaldehyde, or toluene--chemicals you don't want on your skin). The Effects colors won't launch until Late Fall, but meanwhile, visit the Creative Nail Design Web Site and see what other great products they have.

Fancy Love Jessica Simpson -Feel Good Every Day In Love or Not

Jessica Simpson has had her ups and downs when it comes to relationships, but when it comes to business, she's a shining star. Simpson has her name on lots of pretty things like shoes, handbags and fragrance. The Advice Sisters reviewed her fragrance called Fancy, and gave it high marks. Simpson is trying her hand at wooing your senses, again, with Fancy Love. As of now, I'm told it's the #2 at Macy's. Maybe by the time this blog post is published, it will be #1. I wouldn't be at all surprised.

When a celebrity puts his or her name on the bottle. it's a good bet that the fragrance will appeal to his or her fans. But the true test of a celebrity fragrance is whether or not it will appeal to the rest of the fragrance-sniffing public. For Ms. Simpson, the focus of her career choices and her fragrances, is "love." Although the bottle is similar to that of Fancy, the focus seems to be on a more subdued sensuality. The outer sleeve of the carton features a "soft touch" head and shoulders photo of Jessica. But unlike the sexy, sassy photos she's famous for, this one is of a dreamy woman, her eyes are hopeful, but you can tell that she has lived a little. Along with the misty expression is the white lace dress trimmed in eyelet that she wears. It looks more like a sundress than a wedding dress or something for the boudoior.

Inside the dreamy, photo sleeve is a very pretty carton of pure white, and embossed with hearts and flourishes. Fancy Love and Simpson's name (plus a tiny, gold butterfly that is supposedly an homage to one of her favorite, vintage perfume bottles) stand out in fancy, gold, metallic script. The bottle itself looks like the original bottle for FANCY, but this time, it's a dreamy, millky white glaze with a matte gold top.

And the scent itself? I don't love every celebrity scent, but honestly, this one is good. It's the type of fragance that makes you feel feminine and special -- a little bit of pampering you can lavish on yourself every day. In times of budgetary strife, feeling good is a must-do. This fragrance delivers a "feel good" whether you're in love, or hoping to be, or just need a pick-me-up. There's nothing sad, bitter or angry about Fancy Love!

The overall vibe is a delicious, juicy, peach--at least at the top. The perfumers, along with Simpson, were Yves Cassar, Celine Barel, Pascal Gaurin and Clement Gavarry. The actual top notes are goji leaf, bergamot, peach blossom, and pink champagne. you can really smeel the peachyiness (but it's a luscious, pulpy peach, not overly sweet or fruity). The heart is floral (what else could you use for a dreamy, romantic fragrance?). There is lotus, peonies, plumeria, jasmine, and Turkish rose. But at the bottom, there's a bit of sensual gourmand going on: patchouli, sensual musk, blonde woods and creamy amber. These notes temper the fruits and florals, to make the scent sensual without being too exotic.

I am sure that younger women who adore Jessica Simpson and want to look like her, will want to smell like her (or at least will identify with Fancy Love because it is associated with Jessica Simpson). But I can't imagine any woman of any age who smells this not hoping to wear it. You can't help but think: wow, yummy smell!." The white and gold packaging, and the dreamy, romantic nature of the scent, will make it a favorite of romantics of every age.

Fancy Love (at Macys) is available in an Eau de Parfum Spray $59.00 3.4 fl. oz, and a 1.7 fl. oz version for $49.00 plus a Body Lotion $30.00 6.0 fl. oz.
