Victorias Secret's Holiday Goodies

Victorias Secret makeup collections have always amazed me because they're beautiful, trendy, high performance, and yet, really affordable. For now and for the holidays, you can't go wrong treating yourself, or your BFFs, with anything from the limited edition Exotic Jewels Makeup Collection by supermodel and tv star, Heidi Klum. The mostly plum-centric palette has flattering options for every skin tone. And you can't help but admire the compacts, featuring intricate, Indian designs tinged with gold, inspired by Heidi’s visit to India’s Varanasi, and the Indian-themed vow renewal ceremony she shared with her husband, Seal, in Mexico. Everything in the collection is gorgeous, but my favorite is the "Hidden Palace" Eye Shadow Palette $24.00 featuring shimmery shades of champagne, mauved-nude,bright berry, deep violet, and black. Add a deep, plum-colored, lash lengthening Mascara $13.00 in "Amethyst" and a party-perfect, plum-tinted glitter liner $12.00 in "Majesty." There are also plum-themed lip and face products to complete the collection. You will feel like Maharani, and look elegantly trendy for the holidays. Luckily, you won't have to pay a queen's ransom for any of these items. They make great stocking stuffers, too. While you’re at Victorias Secret or online at their web site, check of VS Pro, a line of makeup that helps you get DIY runway-ready looks. For example, The Camoflage FX Concealer Palette $18.00 gives you five creamy conscealers that let you mix and match colors for whatever you need–green to counter redness and blemishes, apricot to correct dark spots, and light, medium and dark nude concealers to mix to a perfect color–brush applicator, included. This slim palette with clear top gives you what the pro palettes have, but for a lot less. The Brow FX Grooming Gel $15.00 keeps unruly brows in place. I recently realized that even well groomed brows need help–it’s not just an extra step, it’s a must-have now that brows are a big focus. There are a number of other products to consider, including an eye shadow primner, blotting gel, and a Radiant Face Illuminator–all well priced and ready to help you easily perfect your look!

From the Victoras Secret Makeup Collection, there's one particular lip color that I think needs a shout-out: a Matte Cream Lipstick $14.00 called: "Muse." This hot pink adds a much-needed pop of color to lips that perks up even the most pale, or tired, complexion. You could add a shiny or shimmery lip gloss over it, but a bold matte in a flattering color is so "right now" you’ll want to wear it "as-is." The look is moistly matte, not dry. I love it!

Advice Sisters Whopping Four Page Holiday Gift Idea Review Is Live Now

WHY, LUCKY SHOPS, OF COURSE!

The Advice Sisters attended the preview night of Lucky Shops yesterday evening. You have two more days to attend this extreme shopping event. Here is my report, and reasons why you should GO!

I reported most of the details in my last post two days ago, about Lucky Shops but just in case you need reminding, LUCKY SHOPS, run by Lucky Magazine (the magazine for the savvy shoppers, and eye candy, too), hosts more than 10,000 shoppers (from 35 different states!) who want a chance to get genuine, trendy, designer merchandise at true bargain prices, up to 75% off! This is not an understatement. While most of the designer clothing items start at around $80-$100, you would pay double, maybe triple, if you went to a store to buy them right now. I bought a Twinkle by Wenlen sweater last night for $5.00! Yes, you heard me right: $5.00! Paired with the free belt from Nine West I found in my gift bag (*given out to ticket holders at the $250 preview event only) I am ready to rock a new outfit for less than the cost of a latte!

It's that kind of bargain that keeps shoppers coming back year after year, but the preview night is $250.00. Is it worth that much to shop?

You decide, but I think for a real shopper, it really is. You'll get a fabulous gift bag (more on that in a minute) and a chance to trawl for bargains before anyone else does (larger sizes may sell out fast). You also get free drinks and nibbles, plus give-aways (like these on-spot lip make-overs from Maybelline and a free mascara to take home), hair re-dos and consultations from Garnier, and even a few contests. Most of the people I spoke to on line waiting to get in (mostly women, but also some men), were veterans of several Lucky Shops events and had varying reasons for paying $250 to attend the preview night. Some said they were boutique and department store shoppers who knew they could get the same items at Lucky Shops, for less, but apart from "grazing" for bargains,. Others simply cited the excitement of high-end shopping at do-able prices, with free drinks and nibbles. A few just said that Lucky Shops is a chance to be social with friends they didn't always see often, but that get together at Lucky Shops every year.

This is an actual gift bag from the Lucky Shops Preview event. If you bought absolutely nothing at Lucky Shops, the bag would still be worth the preview price of $250.00 to get in last night. The bag is of the quality and quantity given to celebrities at high profile events...honestly! There were more than 21 full sized (and a few travel sized) beauty items in this bag, including three full-sized items from the Redken Color Extend Collection that I know are worth upwards of $30.00 just for the trio, Ed Hardy fragrance, a huge jar of Bath Salts...books, snacks, and more. Add a dozen great Huggable Hangers from Joy Mangano (srp. $29.50) , black leggings from Aerie (tag says $17.50) and adorable T-shirt from CLU (basic grey T not as nice as this one at TopShop is $143), plus a Leather Belt ($45.00 on the tag) and an Amrita Singh bangle. plus coupons galore, and you start to see why people were lined up down the block!

If you want to have your designer shopping wishes fulfilled today or tomorrow, it's just $35.00 for the today, Friday, November 6th 11AM – 7PM and the SATURDAY SHOP-A-THON - Saturday, November 7th 11AM – 5PM is $20.00. Next year, get your tickets in advance and go to the Thursday preview for that great bag and more bargains!

SIREN by Paris Hilton

Paris Hilton is a chameleon. Like other female icons such as Cher or Madonna, Paris seems to be able to change her personna and her look without warning or format, just to keep things interesting. From her hair styles, to her love interests, to her personal life, there's always something new to focus on.

Ms. Hilton has put her name on many things, including her own line of handbags and shoes, and also, several surprisingly good fragrances. The scents reflect the many facets of Paris: young, hip;, and all are different. For example, for Fairy Dust, is a very soft and youthful fragrance, Ms. Hilton appeared, engraved on the collectible bottle, like a modern Tinkerbell. But the latest in the line of Paris Hilton designer fragrances (her sixth, if I counted correctly), is Siren by Paris Hilton Eau de Parfum $55.00 3.4 fl. oz, $45.00 1.7. It seems, we can't get enough of Paris!

On the cardboard over-sleeve for Siren, there is a photo of Paris as a glorious, glowing, golden, mermaid. Her long hair falls to her waist, and her face looks serene and subtly seductive. She looks quite beautiful. You can tell from the photo of the bottle above that it is quite beautiful, too. But what about the actual fragrance?

I'm happy to report that Paris Hilton has hit another one out of the proverbial ball park. This scent is really beautiful, too. It starts with top notes of exotic frangipani flowers and apricot nectar, with a heart of day blooming honeysuckle, rainforest orchids, budding water lily. But the drydown notes are vanilla beans and musk, with sandalwood to bring a more sensual and exotic vibe to the otherwise feminine fragrance. I think the notes mesh well with Ms. Hilton's personality: feminine and sweet, sometimes, but also a bit spicy and seductive. As she matures, so do her fragrances.

The bottle is a gorgeous collectible: a lean wave of sculpted, clear glass that curves like a mermaid's tail, with ribs fanning out like shell at the top, with a sculpted, frosted globe over the spray diffuser. You want to grab it like an Oscar statue--it's that tactile. And, there's an additional, little gift--a golden mermaid dangle to detach and add to your phone, or keychain. It's not as light or fruity/floral, but more a floral with spice, and substance. Could Paris be growing up?

Women of all ages will be attracted to this seductive scent, created with perfumer Honorine Blanc. If you're looking for a romantic scent for yourself, or for the holidays (they're nearly here), Siren by Paris Hilton is a solid, savvy choice.

I'm Setting Sail on the Elvis Cruise November 12th!

Elvis Presley Eterprises, Inc., Sixthman, and Carnival Cruise Lines are collaborating for the third year to bring Elvis fans the only, officially licensed cruise by Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc. The Elvis Cruise will set sail on the 2,052-passenger Carnival Inspiration Nov 12-16, 2009, round-trip from Tampa, Florida, calling at Cozumel, Mexico. The trip is hosted by Elvis’ close friend and entourage member, Jerry Schilling, and the cruise will feature live music and entertainment from some of Elvis’ former band mates and backup singers along with the best Elvis tribute artists in the world. Elvis and his music will be everywhere, from the lounges, to the decks, to the main stage!

Who is going to be onboard (Besides Elvis fans)? ME! Invited on board by Sixthman, I am going to be sharing all of the experiences, sights, sounds and personalities, onboard. If you're ever wondered what a theme cruise would be like, get ready to read my daily posts starting November 11th!


While there will be plenty of people who can sing like Elvis, there will also be plenty of talented performers, many of whom worked, recorded, acted, or knew, Elvis. Currently scheduled to perform are: The TCB Band, The Imperials, The Sweet Inspirations, Joe Guercio, D.J. Fontana, Terry Mike Jeffrey & Band, Andy Childs, Ronnie McDowell and The Dempseys along with Elvis Tribute Artists Gino Monopoli, Victor Trevino, Ted Torres, Dwight Icenhower, Jay Zanier, Simon Patrick, Bryant Scott, Mark Anthony, Joseph Hall, Kevin Mills, and George Thomas. Joining the cruise for the first time this year are Elvis’ movie co-stars Celeste Yarnall from Live a Little, Love a Little, Cynthia Pepper from Kissin Cousins and Chris Noel from Girl Happy.



The Carnival Inspiration is chartered especially for this theme cruise, so, in addition to Elvis-themed entertainment, there will be in-room Elvis movies, meet and greet sessions with celebrity guests, an Elvis fashion show featuring officially licensed merchandise, Elvis Monopoly and trivia tournaments, ice carvings, and many other Elvis-themed activities. The trip features two fun filled days at sea, and while the focus is on Elvis, there's also a visit to Cozumel, Mexico. But for me, it's always the cruise ship that is the most fun. The “Fun Ship” Carnival Inspiration underwent an extensive multi-million-dollar refurbishment that included the addition of a water park, adults-only retreat, resort-style pool and other features and upgrades.

To be honest, I am not sure what to expect. I like Elvis, but more importantly, I'm a very curious reporter eager to share my experiences with all of you. Elvis has been gone for quite some time, and yet, his appeal never seems to wane. My Zerona - A Zerona Laser Follow-Up Discussion With Dr. Ungaro

It surprises me how many people are searching for information on the Zerona Laser, and the series of posts I did on my personal experience with the Zerona Laser treatments, with Dr. Nicholas Ungaro of Better Body Solutions.

If you followed my blog posts, you know that my last Zerona report told of a modest loss of inches. I wasn't really disappointed, especially when I was informed by Dr. Ungaro and the really open-minded public relations firm that assisted me with the treatments, that I was incorrect about the average loss of inches (it's 3 inches, not 6). In addition, I was impressed with Dr. Nicholas Ungaro's offer of three additional treatments to patients who use the laser but feel their results needed enhancing. I also was impressed and grateful to him for inviting me to continue working with him to maximize the effects of the laser, as I have some physical issues (including thyroid issues) that might have caused me to do everything right, and still lose less in the way of inches than the average.

I went to see Dr. Ungaro at Better Body Solutions, last week. After speaking with him, I am planning to continue working with him to see what other treatments might help me lose those seemingly resistant-to-everything, inches. I will be reporting on other weight loss treatments and solutions in the coming months, so keep reading this blog (bookmark the blog's home page or even better, just subscribe to it by email or in a reader).

Dr. Unagro (and I) understand that a malfunctioning or non-existent thyroid gland (part of the adrenal system) effects other parts of the body. This may be one reason I didn't lose as much as I might have with the Zerona Laser Treatment.

And, stress can cause problems with weight loss as well. In fact, Dr. Ungaro has written all about stress and the stress hormone, Cortisol, in his informative blog. In his practice at Better Body Solutions, one of the things Dr. Ungaro does for his patients is to run laboratory tests to determine circadian cortisol profiles. Cortisol panels can show whether there is too much (or too little) of this stress hormone, or whether the cortisol levels in an individual are lower or higher than they should be at a certain point in the day. Dr. Ungaro thinks this may be another reason I didn't get a whopping loss of inches during my Zerona Laser treatments, so he's going to test for this on yours truly. Among the things I talked to Dr. Ungaro about was the Zerona Laser itself. It turns out that the lilac-tinted Zerona Laser that Dr. Ungaro uses is superior to other models. This lilac tinted laser at Better Body Solutions has arms that are very flexible. The really flexible arms means that technicians can focus in very closely on problem areas and treat those most intensely. And, Dr. Ungaro told me that one of his patients just had a 13" reduction with the treatment. Now, that's, impressive. I know that's not going to be the norm for everyone, but it just shows how unique we, as people, really are.

Nina Ricci Precious Edition Is a Coveted, Fabulous "Fruit"

Apple symbolism goes back before the Bible. The newest (and potentially the most luxurious) version of the beloved "forbidden fruit" is a fragrance: Nina Ricci Precious Edition, which arrives beautifully packaged, in a magical, mauve metallic apple, decorated with luxurious Swarovski crystals, and filled with a fruity scent that will make you feel amazing.

The original Nina fragrance created in 1987 was a fresh green floral with notes of Bergamot, mimosa, cassia tree buds, basil, orange blossom, marigold. Mid: Jasmine, mimosa, rose, violet, ylang-ylang. Base: Iris, sandalwood, vetiver, cassis. When it was discontinued, a new Nina Nina, was then createdin 2006. This one modernized the mix, with Calabrian lemon, Caipirinha Lime, peony petals, moonflower, vanilla-infused red toffee apple, applewood and white cedar.

Holiday 2009 Nina Precious Edition is a limited edition you will want to own, not just for the gorgeous packaging and bottle, but also because it really smells good: a mostly fruit with floral vibe featuring top notes of Calabrian bergamot and lemon, along with intoxicating and fresh lime. A heart of peony, moonflower and apple, and slighter more goumand base notes this time, including apple wood, mixed with pralines and musk. This apple was not created on a tree, by nature, but it was created by two naturally talented Firmenich perfumers - Olivier Cresp and Jacques Cavallier. At first sniff, you can really smell the tangy citrus, but within about 30 seconds this well-balanced scent mixed with it's florals. At drydown, which also seems to happen fairly quickly, you get the praline. On my skin, Nina Precious Edition smells lightly like a French lemon tart with a buttery crust right out of the oven, but it's neither too fruity, too sweet, or too tart. It's delicious! People will stop and ask what you're wearing. This scent is a bona fide man magnet--but they have to get close to you to get a good whiff as it won't overpower you.

Fragrance is so highly personal, and people purchase new bottles of scent for many reasons. But one very important criteria is not just how you smell wearing it, but how the flacon looks. and makes you feel when you hold it. This Winter Holiday 2009 limited edition of Nina by Nina Ricci gives you lots of reasons to really, really want it. For starters, it has to be this season's most coveted collectible. The metallic mauve-ish pink bottle has shiny, silver "leaves" encrusted with dozens of sparkling, clear, Swarovski crystals. Clarins Palazzo d'Oro collection: Venetian Splendor

There's nothing more glorious, specially during the holidays, than a new makeup compact that makes you feel special, pampered, and glamorous. Clarins has given us all a treat for this holiday season with their Palazzo d'Oro collection. The limited edition products embody the light and radiance of Venice, drawing inspiration for it's beautiful, golden palaces, subtle colours, and architecture. Naturally, the collection is gold-themed. Open the red, Clarins outer cartons, and find shiny/matte metal compacts, square, mirrored and protected by metallic pouches. That's luxe enough, but inside, the excitement, builds:

The Gold Attraction Face Palette $57.00 is one of the most glam products I've ever seen for the holidays. Open the gorgeous, weighty, gold compact, and be dazzled by a beige powder embossed with a delicate, lace work pattern, glitzed all over with gold glitter. A light dusting of this sheer, golden powder adds just the right amount of golden shimmer to face and decollete. If you can indulge in only one, holiday item, this is it.
