Redken's Holiday Gift Sets - Welcome Hair Helpers

If you are a regular reader of my blog or What Works Beauty, Cosmetics & Fashion review columns, you know that Redken products are some of my personal favorites. Now that the holiday season is really in full swing, it's time to get serious about your hair. Redken has five, nicely curated and packaged, gift sets , containing both haircare and styling products that work together to deliver the results you want: to straighten, add volume, softness, help retain color, or add dimension to blondes. Each set is attractively boxed in black, cardboard presentation boxes. All are affordable and give you (or a special someone) a chance to sample key products from some of the most popular, Redken product lines:

I love the Real Control Gift Set Suggested retail price $22.00 featuring three must-haves to repair and nourish dense, dry, and sensitized hair: Real Control Shampoo and Conditioner which nourishes, restores and reclaims control of dense, dry, & sensitized tresses. And, for true pampering with a difference you can see and feel, apply Real Control Intense Renewal super moisturizing mask-an ultra-rich, deep conditioning treatment-daily or weekly, as an intense treatment to instantly detangle, smooth and improve compatibility to resist breakage. *check out the Advice Sisters review of Real Control on the Advice Sisters What Works column from Summer 2008).

If I wasn't a beauty reviewer, the Redken gift set I'd want to get the most is the Amazing Straight Gift Set Suggested retail price $22.00 with a pair of products that help keep even wild hair looking sleek and less frizzy. The gift set includes the really excellent, Align 12 protective straightening lotion that defends hair against unwanted humidity. When you straighten your hair with a flat iron, you must have Quick Dry 18 instant finishing spray to keep the style, settled and in place. These two products are my best friends, when I need to look chic.

The All Soft Gift Set Suggested retail price $22.00, gives dry and brittle hair what it needs to feel good again. * see my review of All Soft in the Advice Sisters What Works Fall 2007 column. The gift set includes All Soft Shampoo and Conditioner, and a special treatment for coarse, dry hair: All Soft Heavy Cream super treatment.

The Blonde Glam Gift Set Suggested retail price $22.00, is a boon for all hues of blonde, giving it sparkle, and dimensional shine! This gift set includes Blonde Glam Shampoo and Conditioner to brighten, clarify and keep bold blondes sparkling. *see our review of Redken's Blonde Glam in the Winter 2006 What Works column beauty review. Delicate, highlighted blondes who want protection, softness and shine, the set also comes with Blonde Glam Dream Whip mousse, to revitalize, protect and condition highlighted blonde hair.

The Color Extend Gift Set Suggested retail price $22.00 is a must-have for anyone who highlights or colors their hair *see our review of Color Extend in the Advice Sisters Summer 2005 What Works column. This set includes Redken's excellent Color Extend Shampoo and Conditioner to seal in haircolor and protect against fading, while strengthening and rebalancing moisture. But color treated hair needs extra TLC, and it will get it, with For Redken's Color Extend Rich Recovery protective treatment, a lightweight gel cream to use once or twice a week for more intense color and shine.

If you know someone whose hair always seems limp, give them the Rekden Incredible Volume Gift Set Suggested retail price $22.00 that caters to all hairtypes wanting to pump up the volume! It includes guts 10 volume spray foam which boosts up flat hair for flexible, bold style that you can control with a directional spray nozzle for precise applications. You also get the great, Forceful 23 super strength finishing spray (amaximum hold hairspray that lasts up to 24 hours).

Creative Nail Design Paints the Runways for Spring and Now, With Colour & Effects

If you follow this blog and the Advice Sisters What Works Beauty, Cosmetics & Fashion reviews, you have already read my report of CND's amazing new nail lacquer collection called Colour & Effects. When I wrote it, the products were not available yet. But now they're ready for your creativity and fun! You can be a trend-setter and eliminate "cookie cutter" nails, forever--with a single swipe of a brush!

The new Colour & Effects collection features a whopping 50, fashion-forward, creme colors, from nearly sheer and light, to opaque, black and midnight navy. On their own, they're shiny, long lasting, beautiful nail polishes to make nails look nice. But what makes these colors even more unique is what you can do with them -- with 15 special "Effects." Apply underneath or on top of one of the base colors, and watch the Effects coat do magic, changing the formula to a shine, shimmer, glitter, iridescent, pearle and more. The Super Matte for example, turns a normal, shiny polish a modern matte finish which is something I saw a lot backstage at Fashion Week for Spring 2010. These Effects change more than the texture and finish, they actually change the color, too. I recently applied a gold shimmer to a brown polish, and it became a burnished purple! There are endless possiblities, so you will never be bored with nail polish again, while your nails will never look just like someone else's. According to CND's Jan Arnold, if you used the polishes and Effects in various ways (alone, over, under or mixed) you could have up to 5,000 different color options! TIP: turn the bottle upside down and roll between your palms to blend it.
Creative Nail Design Nail polish cares for your nails, with long lasting, fast drying colors, and they're 3-free (no DBP, formaldehyde, or toluene). Suggested retail for Colour is $9.00, and $11.00 a bottle for the Effects. CNDs base and top coats (still a must-have for a long-lasting, perfect manicure) are Srp. $8.00 each.

I can't really recommend just one color as a favorite, since there are so many. For this season, just to get you started, I love "Fireberry," a bright, bold, "holly berry" red. "Indian Rhubarb" is a slightly more rosed version. "Oilslick" is a blackened navy that is trendy on it's own, and will be spectacular with a clear and starry glittery coat of "Sapphire Sparkle" or "Crimson Sparkle" Effects layered over it. Or, try another CND color with a Shimmer Effect such as "Copper Shimmer" (it will add a metallic-y rusty glow to another color), or try a ladylike nude such as "Marshmallow Rose" and pair it with "Violet Shimmer." I tried the gorgeous, iridescent "Gold Pearl" Effects over a grey polish, and it softened into a gorgeous, mother of pearl! Amazing!

For more ideas about how to use Creative Nail Design's Colour & Effects products, here's a bonus: CND's trend expert Jan Arnold, and leading nail stylists Roxanne Valinoti, Angi Wingle and Kristina Estrabrooks collaborated with 20 designers for New York Fashion Week Spring 2010 and debuted the brand new Colour & Effects collection on the catwalk. Below are some of their custom designer nail looks as seen on the runways:

3.1 Phillip Lim - Oilslick topped with asymmetrical sweeps of Gold Sparkle for a deconstructed, oxidized finish

Baby Phat - Gold foil on nails and Gold Chrome topped with Air Dry on toes for an exotic Moroccan-inspired look
BCBG, Costello Tagliapietra, Hervé Léger, and Max Azria - a beautiful, sand blasted natural look with two coats of Putty followed by Air Dry top coat for a high shine

Behnaz Sarafpour - Bursts of rich, deep color with Dark Ruby or Asphalt to match '40s inspired styling

Carolina Herrera - One thin coat of Blackjack and a layer of Muddy Rose topped with Air Dry for a harmonious "Dusty Rose" shade

Karen Walker - a Gorgeous soft muted gray, combining Silver Chrome and Studio White and a taupe finish combining the same two colors, topped with two coats of Putty to complement preppy, clean looks on the runway

Malandrino - Desert Suede texturized with coffee grounds and sugar for a dense, sandy mani topped with Super Matte

Milly - Two coats of pale pink Marshmallow Rose to accessorize preppy-punk pieces

Monique Lhuillier - One coat of Oilslick and one coat of Raisin in the Sun topped with Super Matte top coat created an exotic deep, mossy brown to match the collection inspired by the intricate draping of the Masai Warriors

Ruffian - Modern take on '40s inspired bare moon manicures with Plumville, edged with Blackjack on a pointed nail to mimic piping in the shoes and clothes

Cushnie et Ochs - Two coats of Putty topped with two coats of Copper Shimmer for a metallic-meets-neutral futuristic spin

Diego Binetti - Nails mimicked a Thai sunrise with Studio White, Ivory Coast and Electric Orange, and Thai nights with Inkwell, Ice Blue Shimmer and star-like twinkly rhinestones

Gottex - Custom sheer metallic wash that combined Bicycle Yellow and Gold Chrome for a shimmery, subtle finish to compliment gold accessories in the collection

Jason Wu - Copper Chrome topped by Super Matte for a sophisticated matte metallic finish

ThreeAsFour - Anchor Blue layered with two coats of Studio White and topped with Super Matte for an ethereal ocean blue

Twinkle - Brilliant White, Ivory Coast and Super Matte on fingers for a snow-white color sans shine and Ivory Coast, Desert Suede on toes

Victor de Souza - Blackjack on long, pointy nails and hands dipped in paraffin wax for a futuristic glaze
CND Colour retails for $9.00 per bottle, Effects retail for $11.00 per bottle, and Super Matte and Air Dry Top Coats retail for $8.00 each. CND Colour & Effects is available at TimeToSpa.com, Ulta stores and top salons and spas globally. Sassy City Chicks Fashion Bash in NYC December 2, 2009

Shopping events (both online, and in person) are becoming the new, savvy way for fashionistas to get what they want, without going broke. What's more, shopping events and "girls night out" gives women a chance (and in some cases, an excuse) to get out of the house, and to socialize and enjoy themselves. Usually, these events also feature free cocktails and nibbles, so you're partying, not just paying, for great stuff!

The latest of these events (and only their second in New York (the first was in April) happened yesterday (December 2nd from 5:00-10:00 p.m.), the Sassy City Chicks Fashion Bash, hosted by Haute Life MarketingEvents (HLPR). They've been producing and organizing Sassy City Chicks events in other cities, since 2001.

The formula is pretty much the same as other shopping bashes: provide unique vendors of stuff "girls" like at good discounts, and make it fun, with drinks and nibbles. Of course, there are gift bags (the one advertised for Sassy City Chicks had an estimated value of $300.00). The event was very conveniently located at the Hotel Pennslvania's Gold Ballroom, a location near Macy's and Madison Square Garden. I went in the morning for the press preview, and there was a mountain of yummy cupcakes. In the evening, I'm told, it's cocktails.

Tickets are not terribly expensive, just $20.00. You might ask: Why spend money to spend money? Well, the truth is, you'll get access to designer items and discounts you can't get any other Although there were not as many booths as in other events, many of the items I checked out were truly unique. You won't find them in Macy's or a big, box store. These are the type of things you find in Soho or in pricey boutiques around town and think: "How cute! But I can't afford it." At Sassy City Chicks, you can! The prices were went from insanely inexpensive, to reasonable.
There were plenty of goodies to purchase: cosmetics, jewelry, accessories, and clothing. The $20.00 one spends to get in, will be made back in discounts and a shopping bag full of special items, as long as you come prepared to shop and buy more than one thing. As to the 50%-80% off clothing from designers such as DVF, Nanette Lepore, Marc Jacobs, Rebecca Taylor, Betsey Johnson, Theory, and accessories from designers like Gucci and Coach, they were there as advertised, although not huge amounts of them. There were a few vendors (mostly they sell on Ebay) with racks full of genuine designer items that you could purchase on a beer and peanuts budget. And, there was a makeshift dressing room to try things on (something other shopping events don't always have).

I loved the products from Perfect Pouch Wear, stretchy, silky, glamorous dresses, tunics and pants that literally, folk into a pocket and will not crush. The entire dress shown in this photo folks into it's own pocket, smaller than a recyclable nylon bag...and doesn't wrinkle! The cost (at this show they wer half price at just $40.00). I almost never buy things (if I did, I'd be broke in short order) but I broke down and bought one of the basic black pants. They're dressy enough to wear out, comfortable enough to survive a long plane trip, and, if someone spills something all over me, I can "wash and wear" again, quickly

Even if you don't buy a thing, you do get a gift bag with a full price tickets. The organizers say it's worth at least $300.00. In all fairness, I am not sure it was quite that much in value, but it definitely was worth far more than the cost of admission. When you add up all of the contents, it is still quite a lot of value for your money. I was thrilled that my bag had one of Eve's Pearl's amazing lipgloss duos (value: $28.00) and also a nice cami/panty set from Fredericks of Hollywood (not tacky, wearable and pretty). The contents were a bit heavy on the drugstore item side, but all were brand name. There were several nail items (I know they're worth at least $6.00 each because I've reviewed them). Also included was a lovely Honeysuckle spray "pen" from Demeter Fragrance Library (the Advice Sisters have reviewed many of their unique scents); lip gloss from Murad; a box (not a sample) of 16 Wisp mini-toothbrushes filled with Colgate toothpaste: Shobha Ingrown Relief Lotion, Skin Compliment lotion from Amena, faux eyelashes from Revlon; two skincare samples from Sabon Organic; four skincare samples from BodyOgraphy; an adorable tin of eye shadow from Pop Beauty; a sample of Borba Skin Balance Water, and four sample pouches of skincare from Better Botanicals. The re-useable, Sassy City Chicks mini shopping tote is going to be great for carrying shoes and other must-haves, around town.

Who's that woman with a genuine (and impressively heavy), Ocscar)? That's actually me, Alison Blackman, after Eve Pearl worked her makeup magic on me. I couldn't resist holding the Oscar when opportunity, knocked! The face and body are mine, but the Oscar (one of a well-deserved, five) is Eve Pearl's.

Eve Pearl was the first person I spied as I walked in, and I made a beeline for her! I remember being very impressed with her demonstration of high definition makeup, at the Makeup Show, back in 2006. The Advice Sisters have not yet reviewed Eve Pearl cosmetics, but I think we'll be doing so very soon (and hopefully, often).

Eve graciously offered to do my makeup (cost: priceless), and I was thrilled to accept. After all, Eve was coming from a morning at the Today Show, and she's a personal make-up artist to Meredith Vieira. She's also a frequent on-air guest and expert, performing make-overs and providing make-up and beauty advice, and is the author of Plastic Surgery without the Surgery, the Miracle of Makeup Techniques (Book - Warner Books, DVD -GreatFaces, Inc.).

While Eve worked, I watched the master of makeup, best I could. Eve uses a lot of sponges and brushes to apply makeup so it looks flawless, but not mask-like. She is known for her creamy, salmon-colored concealer that lets you cover up without getting "raccoon" eyes. Eve likes to spritz her tools and sponges with water (with her foundation, it made it a bit more sheer), but she also used water on her pressed powder eye shadow to get more intensity out of the color. I had already been wearing (testing) a red lipstick, but Eve used her red: "Hollywood Affair," lining my lips and then filling them in with a brown pencil, first. The brown pencil not only kept the lipstick from smudging and running, it also toned down some of the red so it had a bit of warmth. When I got home I tried the same with another red lipstick that I felt was just a bit "tooo much" for my fair skin, and the technique worked, perfectly!

Sassy City Chicks was a fun event that I'd attend again and recommend. Visit www.sassycitychicks.com for more information and to be there for the next event.

Oral B Pulsonic Rechargeable Toothbrush Slims Down

Many households have electric toothbrushes. They have been a staple for good dental health, for deaces. But the bases are often bulky and ugly, and the brushes themselves can be heavy and tiring to use.

Enter Pulsonic, Oral-B's slimmest and lightest sonic toothbrush, ever! The model I tried was a Rechargeable Power Toothbrush "kit" that includes a handle, a charging station, a small, Precision Tip Brush Head, and the full sized, Oral-B Pulsonic Brush Head. The battery can last up to two weeks on one charge so you can take it with you without the charging unit, if you're going away for a long weekend, and the battery has no cadmium, lead or mercury, so it's better for the environment, too.

Model at the Caravan Show, by Alison Blackman

The brush itself looks sleek and modern, almost sexy (in toothbrush terms, anyway). In fact, during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York last September, the Caravan runway show at the Metropolitan Pavillion had models holding this toothbrush as they strutted down the catwalk, just to show how fashion-forward a toothbrush can be.

Weighing in at just one pound, the toothbrush feels light as a feather, in your hand. And, the slim base and toothbrush shape takes up less space on your bathroom counter (the toothbrush itself fits into a normal toothbrush holder so you can put the base away if you're not charging the brush all that often. It is quiet and easy to use, and it's also powerful, effectively whitening teeth by reducing up to 94% of surface stains in 2 weeks. That would be thanks to more than 27,000 vibrations per minute, and a specially-designed Pulsonic brush head that contours to the teeth to provide an effective clean. The brush head tickles your gums like the powerful brushes at the dentist's office (I quickly got used to it). You also get a small, thin, precision tip brush head that is designed to help remove plaque and stains between teeth. Additional features include a clean mode, and a sensitive mode. The "Clean” mode provides an effective cleaning for your teeth, while the "Sensitive" mode is designed to cleanse your tongue, and other sensitive areas. The toothbrush pauses, briefly, every thirty seconds to remind you to move it to another one of the four quadrants of your mouth, and a two-minute timer indicates when the ideal, over all brushing time has been reached.

I have to admit that while it's hard to get all worked up about something as essential but mundane as a toothbrush, I actually look forward to using this one. You can get less expensive models of electric toothbrushes, but there is a pleasure factor with this one, along with it's health benefits. Electric toothbrushes can last for years, while an ordinary toothbrush lasts maybe for a month or so. An electric toothbrush also can be more effective in cleaning your teeth, so you might save yourself from cavities and deteriorating gums, and other things that would send you to a costly visit to the dentist. And, if you enjoy the process (and use the timers on the brush) you may brush better, and longer.

The set makes a thoughtful and long-lasting gift for someone you care about, and alittle but beneficial splurge, for yourself. The suggested retail price for the Oral B Pulsonic set is $69.99. A brush head replacement set with three full sized brushes and one precision tip brush head will run you another $10-$18.00, depending upon where you shop.

All of the Oral B products are available in a variety of online and retail stores. You can also visit the Oral B Pulsonic Web Site for more information, discount coupons, and purchase locations.

Fun,Very Affordable Gifts of Scent!

The holiday gift season is in full swing, but you are still wondering what to give those hard-to-shop-for people on your list? Here are some affordable, welcome and thoughtful holiday gift ideas that won't find their way into the "Returns" pile at the store! Home scents are always a great, one-size-fits-all gift and a festive little treat for yourself as well.

One idea I really like is a festive candle in a holiday scent, such as the Evergreen candle from Hill House Natural's Winter Collection. The nicely boxed, 100% natural fragranced soy candle in white frosted glass, for example, gives you 5 oz. of candle (with a cotton wick and a 30 hour burn time), for just $24.00! I tried the zesty "Evergreen" scent, an all-time holiday favorite. But if you're less into pine boughs and more into spice, "Pomander" or "Cinnamon" will suit just as well. There's also a beautifully packaged (just add bow, and go) 8 oz. Diffuser for $43.00 or a 2 oz. mini Diffuser set (with cute little bottles of Spiced Pear, Cinnabark amd Balsam Wreath) for $32.00. Visit Hill House Naturals for more information and to order.

This may look like a delicious scoop of ice cream, but it's really a bath product - ME! Bath Ice Cream® $8.50. It's a large, moisturizing, bath bomb with a unique blend of six oils, purifying minerals, fragrances, and Epsom Salt to make your skin feel wonderful. Your 6 oz."scoop" of ME! Bath Ice Cream will fizz and dissolve in water, releasing it's skin loving pampering, while you enjoy one of 40 different "flavors" mostly in fruit scents such as mango, banana, grapefruit, or the more exotic, orange and raspberry tinted "Cosmo" named for the drink. There are mints and chocolates, a creamy "Cafe con Leche," and some yummy mixtures like Guilt Free Gardenia and Hawaiian Lei. The nicely boxed bath bombs are so clever and cute! They're a great idea for hostess and small thank-you gifts. Don't forget to order some for yourself, too, because everyone needs some ME! time. Visit The ME! Bath Web Site for more information and to order.

Australian made Rituelle scented bath and body products Urban Rituelle bath & body make daily cleansing into pampering rituals, for not a lot of money. The packaging is attractive and rich looking, the scents, unique and pleasing, the Eau de Parfums, soaps, body lotions, hand creams & lip balms, easy on the wallet and on the senses. I tried the Rituelle Eau de Parfum $25.00 1.9 fl. oz in "Ginger," a spicy (but not too over the top pungent) blend of ginger, lime & citrus orange, with a heart of warm nutmeg & juniperberry, layered with a spicy base of black pepper and sweet cinnamon. There is bar soap, hand cream, home fragrance, hand & body Lotion, Bath 7 Shower Gel, a soy candle, and body balm, and more! These look pricey, but they're really not expensive. A huge, .71oz. tin of lip balm with natural beeswax, sweet almond oil, olive oil, shea butter, vitamin E, and sunscreen, in delicious scent like Pomegranate or Vanilla, is just $8.00! Visit the Rituelle Web Site for more information on all the scents, and bath & body products available.

Home fragrance can be pricey, but the Febreze Home Collection from Procter & Gamble can be found in your local market and they're great for creating holiday ambiance, or for a last-minute stocking stuffer. For example, the limited edition "cranberry pear" has a slightly tart scent of crushed cranberries and hint of citrus that smells festive, not funky. Even better, the re-useable votive lamp (uses two AA batteries) with paper, luminaria adds a zen-like feel to a counter or at your bedside, but since it's battery operated, you don't have to worry about open flames. When you turn on the light, the paper shade (this one gussied up in red with a fancy holiday tree design) is illuminated by the flickering bulb in the base, just like a real candle, and it diffuses the scent efficiently into your room. A Starter Kit containing the base costs around $15.50 with refill packettes (approx. $2.67/refill (depending upon where you shop). Change the shade each week to refresh the scent, and re-use the lamp base over and over again (so economical). For more information, Visit the Febreze Home Collection Web page.

Demeter Fragrance Library has my heart years ago, for their affordable fragrances that smell like things everyone loves (e.g.,. crayons and candy hearts). Their huge "library" of scents include many that you'll find nowhere else. For the holidays, however, there's a tempting, spicy blend of holiday cheer called "Cinnamon Bark" It's got a hint of florals in it, so it's not too sweet or heavy..just right for getting him (or her) "up close and personal." And, the 1 fl. oz. Cologne spray bottle is just $20.00; 1/2 oz. just $10.00 and the 1/2 oz. Cologne Splash is just $6.00. It doesn't get any more affordable than this as an affordable thank-you gift or stocking stuffer. Check the Demeter Web Site for dozens and dozens of more tempting scents. There's surely something for everyone here.

Holiday Gift Ideas Within the Realm of Reason

Let's just come right out and say it: It's going to be a rough holiday season budget-wise, for many people. Whther you're struggling or not, to make ends meet, there is no need to go broke to say "thank you" and "happy holidays." You can make your gifts (an idea I love, but not everyone has the time or the talent), but what else says "I really thought of you" and doesn't cost a fortune?

In additon to what I've already posted in The Advice Sisters HUGE , Four-Page What Works Beauty, Cosmetics & Fashion Review for Holiday 2009, I wanted to share some mote, holiday gift ideas that don't all come from big box stores. I have nothing against chains (they're convenient and have lots of choices) but when it comes to the holidays, a gift needs to be more personal. The economy shouldn't force you into giving a nice, but everyone-else-hast-it-too, gift.

Below are six companies that have gift ideas with "do-able" price tags, and that appeal to a wide variety of personalities and age groups. Let me know what you think of these. Would you buy them for the people on your gift list? Your comments ARE welcome!

First on my list is a way to make something you already have, look new, again. Crisa Barriball (who channels her idol, Audrey Hepburn), is the designer and owner of a company featuring beautiful shoe clips called
Absolutely Audrey. In case you've never tried shoe clips, they're ornaments that you add to your same-old-same-old, shoes, to add style and change up the look, as often as you like. No need to buy another pair of shoes for the holiday season, Shoe clips have two little "teeth" on a back clip, that cling to whatever you press them on. When you want to remove them, flip up the clip, and they unclasp! Add a pair of shoe clips from one of Absolutely Audrey's (casual, bridal or evening) collections on the top or side of your shoes, and they will dazzle! You can even clip a shoe clip onto your handbag, or a sweater, to dress them up as well. I love these "Sabrina" shoe clips that are just $30.00/pair and come in ruby, white, or black. As you can see from the photo, one pair definitely dresses up your pumps. Carry a pair in your bag, just in case you're invited to a last-minute party. One of these would look great and add some glamour to a clutch bag ora sweater, too. Lola $25.00/pair also comes in light blue, pink and cream. These are just two of dozens of styles from the casual fabric bows, to pearls and crystals for brides and attendants. It's a lot less expensive to buy clips, than to buy new shoes. They also make a great gift for your wedding attendants, or for holiday stocking stuffers.

One Company I just discovered at a recent, holiday press review, is
The Natural Life. This company has the cutest, generation spanning accessories and gifts that look like hand-made, one-of-a kind gifts. Their printed catalogue is the size of a small phone book, full of totes, jewelry, scarves, home goods, decorations, and treasures. So many, it's hard to just pick one or two pieces to suggest. But two, one-size-fits all favorites for gifts are wallets and scarves. I love the cute "Imagine Peace" Wallet $28.00 in brown "pleather." The inside has a zippered pocket and mirror, and it's lined in green satin and faux leather, while the outside has appliques of a peace symbol and little flowers, with crystal accents on the front. Perfect for a true, flower child. And I am actually wearing the Jersey Scarf $16.00 in a deep rose that you see in the photo, printed with that Rolling Stones fave phrase: "You Can't Always Get What You Want" and 'But if You Try Sometimes... you might get what you need." on the other side. Natural Wooden beaded fringe adds a whimsical touch to a scarf you can use inside or outside, or even as a belt.

You can never have too much jewelry, and the pieces from
The Andean Collection are "green" gifts that are eyecatching, affordable, and "give back" while they make you look good. The idea behind their line is to offer gteat looking jewelry made from e creating a greener planet, and providing a path out of poverty for artisans using fair trade principles. In addition to being paid fair wages, their artisans share in the profits of the company as partial owners of The Andean Collection. A lot of these pieces are made out of seeds and nuts such as tagua, pambil, açaí, huayruro and jabon. For example, Tagua, or ‘vegetable ivory,’ was the most common materials for buttons up until the 1920’s when the use of plastics became mainstream. Check out the company's blog to learn more. My favorite piece (so far) is this Riverbed Bracelet $24.00 that feel smooth to the touch, like stones tumbled in the river, would. It comes in several colors including this gorgeous, deep blue. There is so much more on the web site to choose from, I can't even describe all of the colorful, unique, and pretty pieces that are all under $60.00. You just have to go and check them out for yourself.

I don't have a photo to share with you, but you can't go wrong with a gift from AMOREPACIFIC. Their line is pricey, and pretty incredible. You can treat someone to two great products without going broke, with the AMOREPACIFIC Winter Skin Survival Kit $35.00. Exclusively at Sephora and Sephora stores, it contains two must-haves in a re-useable, zip lock pouch: 1 fl. oz. AMOREPACIFIC Moisture Bound Skin Energy Hydration Delivery System, and .34 oz. Moisture Bound Lip Treatment. The Moisture Bound Skin Energy Hydration Delivery System is an oil-free spray mist in a plastic pump bottle containing Asian botanical root extracts. This refreshign mist makes your skin immediately feel silky and soft without greasy residue. It is great anytime, but especially for travel, at the beach, or any time skin feels dry. The Moisture Bound Lip Treatment has bamboo sap and green tea seed oil to give lips six hours of hydration, providing instant, and continuous, relief for dry, parched lips. The slant-tip tube makes application easy. My lips immediately get dry this time of year. This product, really helps restore them!

Products and Kits are great to travel and gift giving. When it comes to spa products, one of my personal favorites is Pevonia. They are always high quality, with natural ingredients, great scents, and effective formulas. They just make me feel a little bit more pampered, every day. Another plus about Pevonia is that they offer many different skin and bodycare lines to target various skin types, and there's something for every person at every age. Recently, Pevonia has done fans a favor, by creating travel-friendly sizes, and packaging them by use in economical and easy to use, sets. I'm a huge fan of travel sizes and sets, because they allow you to try products you might not ordinarily want to buy without trying, in a full size. And, these days, when it comes to travel, less is more. Travel sizes keep the size and weight of your luggage within reasonable bounds. There are nine different new sets from Pevonia: sensitive skin, combo skin, oily skin, eye products, power repair, rosacea, spa travel essential, spa at home, and safe sun face & body. All range between $39.00 - $58.00. The one in the photo is the for right (a true "must-have") is Your Skincare Solution Safe Sun Face & Body Pack $45.00. You get four Pevonia products that let you exfoliate, hydrate, protect, and preserve your skin, keeping it safe in the sun. They're all you need for a weekend away: Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser 50 ml e 1.7 oz Tube ; Silky Skin Body Scrub 50 ml e 1.7 oz Tube ; Hydrating Sunscreen SPF30 30 ml e 1.0 oz Tube; and Phyto-Aromatic Mist 50 ml e 1.7 oz Bottle Benefits. An added bonus is the waffle-textured, white, zippered fabric (nylon lined) travel pouch that you'll use over and over and over again!

Want to save time, energy, and trees this holiday season? Get a bunch of
Baggu bags and let them be both a gift, and the wrapping paper! These lightweight, extremely colorful, nylon bags are re-useable, pack flat into their own, square, sacks, and come in sizes. Using one BAGGU for one year replaces 300 to 700 disposable bags (not to mention that using Baggu instead of gift wrap, saves trees and keeps paper out of the landfills). The most popular size (there are others on the web site) holds the contents of 2-3 plastic grocery bags. 15” Wide / 25” high / 6” deep. Folds into a flat 5” by 5” pouch. Holds 50 lbs. 100% Ripstop nylon. Machine washable. $8.00 each / 3, 4 or 5 bags $7.50 each / 6 or more bags $6.50 each. There's even a cute video showing how easy it is to use a Baggu bag as giftwrap.
