Good For Your Body Zinc, and A Review of Relastin

When I think of Zinc, I think of the mineral in it's solid form. But while the mineral itself isn't all that showy, it's one that is essential for health and beauty. Zinc promotes a healthy immune system, speeds the healing of wounds, promotes collagen formation, and prevents acne, along with dozens of other functions. Since the human body can't produce zinc on its own, you need to supply it both internally and externally.

One way you can tell if your body isn't getting enough zinc is when you see those white spots on your fingernails, and they're becoming thin and fragile enough to peel. So here are some easy ways to give your body the zinc it needs:

FOODS: The following foods help you get zinc internally: yeast, egg yokes, fish legumes, liver, red meat, mushrooms, oysters, poultry, pumpkin seeds, sardines, seafoods, soy beans, etc. Since only about 30-40% of the zinc you intake from food actually gets absorbed by your body, supplements can help. Ensuring that you have enough zinc in your system will help you deal with reducing blemishes and inflammation. Oral zinc supplements also help heal bed sores, skin ulcers, cold sores, canker sores, surgical incisions, burns, and a variety of other skin irritations.

On the outside of your body, topical creams can help boost collagen and elastic tissue production, helping to deal with the signs of aging such as thinner skin, loss of firmness and elasticity, and wrinkles.

Relastin is one company with a couple of products featuring a patent-pending, Zinc firming Complex. They offer: Relastin Skin Revitalizer, Eye Silk, and Ultra Emollient.

According to the Relastin Web site , these products work beneath the surface to help firm and smooth the skin. The claim is that Relastin penetrates the top layer of your skin, the epidermis, to get to the dermis. This is where elastin is formed and where Relastin's Zinc Firming Complex® goes to work.

As with all beauty products, the results are highly individualized and any review that you read is highly subjective. Anything that really can work at the cellular level is going to be impressive. Alas, I didn't have the time necessary to dedicate to the products that would be required to see visible results. There is more information and quotes from dermatologists on the web site Read More . I like the fact that it is unscented, and non-comedogenic. In fact, I really liked the texture and feel of this cream.

Even better, Relastin may actually give your face an anti-aging boost -- in subtle ways. The Skin Revitalizer (the product I tried) is $69.00 for 1.7 oz. You will need to use it twice a day on face and neck, so the jar should last about a month. The cream is super-light and feels a bit tingly, but not any more than a lip plumper does on your lips. The Eye Silk is also $69.00 and Relastin Ultra Emollient is $99.00. That puts it in all of these into a category that might make a dent in your budget. But still, it has promise as a non-invasive and painless way to handle tiny lines and wrinkles. And, it's still way cheaper than invasive fillers, or a face lift.

Nothing is going to make you look 15 when you're over 50 no matter how new it is and what it costs, so keep your expectations, realistic. But cutting edge products are always exciting. I think the Skin Revitalizer is worth a try, especially if you have lines around your mouth that bother you, and you don't want to inject lip plumpers (owww!)
